6 Tips from our Experts on Checking your Bra Fits Properly

Share Article

Our experts have over 30 years' experience of  helping ladies look and feel their best in a well-fitting bra. Here are their top tips for checking whether your bra fits properly and is doing the job that it should.

The Band

The band of your bra offers about 80% of your bust support. It should sit level around your body and is too tight if it is digging in. If it rides up your back it is too loose. Over time the band will start to get looser on you and reduce the support you need.

Hook and Eye Closure

A new bra should be worn on the loosest or middle hook. Then as the bra stretches and wears over time you have the option to tighten it, thereby getting longer wear from your bra.

Cup

Your bust should be fully encompassed in the cups of your bra. If you spill out to the side or front then the cup size is probably too small. If the cup is wrinkling or there is excess space then the bra cup is too big.

Centre Front

The centre front is the area between the cups and should sit close to your body. If an underwired bra is standing away from the body this suggests the band is too big or the cups are too small.

Straps

Strap position and tightness is very personal. Straps do offer some support but should not be taking the full weight of your bust. Often straps are tightened to pull the bust upwards.

Shape

The all important bra style will offer you the type of shape you want for your bust. With common options being plunge, balcony, full cup and moulded. You will also find different outfits may warrant a different style of bra.
